Centurion Cup Semi

The Centurion Cup Semi final against Stockport on a warm spring day at Timperley started with good anticipation. Before the match started we looked like a strong team fully together ready to take on our opponents.

On the dot of 10am the game started and before we knew it we were 1 goal down and this followed by another two goals from Stockport before we finally managed to score one goal. Stockport seems to have a couple of strong individual players who took the ball from one end of the field to the other and scored. Often decision made it feel like they had 11 players. They often had more on the field as we took so many penalties during the game.

Our play was very disjointed and ground balls continued to be an issue and we wasted our possession several times with shots made from too far out or were too obvious for the very competent Stockport Goalie. The pitch was very soft with plenty of tumbles and skids not helping.

The third quarter was our best as we clawed back to just one goal down at 7-8. Our defence was stronger and when we got possession we managed to get past the goalie with some more sophisticated shots.

The final quarter saw Stockport in full rapid attack knocking in three goals to seal their victory.

We were very despondent and although all the players worked really hard it was evident that the low number and poor quality of games since Christmas had sadly not allowed us to polish our technique.
