On the 19th of November, Timperley were away at Oxton to play their most challenging match of the season so far. The competition was set to be fierce and both teams were keen to take home the win. The game was very intense from the start, Oxton took majority of possession from the draw to begin with, however Timperley soon pulled this back. Attack was well settled around the goal with solid passes between players leaving very little room for error. After a few minutes, after some good settled play around the goal, Lynsey passed to Nic who made a solid cut and scored. Timperley continued to keep good possession of the ball after this which led to another goal being scored by Lauren who was fed the ball by Lucy. After a couple of draws fell into Oxton’s possession, they scored two very quick goals. With strong determination from both sides in the first quarter, this left the score 2-2.

Going into the second quarter both teams were anxious of the even score and keen to increase the goal difference. Attack on both sides worked hard to protect the ball when it was in possession, with accurate passing and effective play around the goal on both sides. Timperley managed to keep themselves in the lead scoring three goals achieved by creating good opportunities and assists around the goal, this came from Lucy, Kat, Lauren and Nic. Oxton continued to play to a high level, working well as a team to move the ball quickly up the pitch. A quick cut into the fan and a fast drive meant that Oxton scored 2 goals. There were other attempts at goals from Oxton, however Sophie, who had temporarily stepped in as goalie for this match, did an incredible job at saving other difficult shots made by Oxton. This left the score at half time 5-4.

The second half of the game was even more intense than the first as both sides knew they needed to work extremely hard to pull off the win. Timperley came out with as much energy as the first quarter and continued to play to a high standard with a very small amount of fouls. Lucy was successful in scoring two goals, one assisted by Lauren and the other from a free position. Oxton remained very strong as a team scoring a further goal, however a foul was given which gave Timperley the advantage. Timperleys substitutions meant that fresh legs supported the team in attack, helping to continue moving the ball effectively and quickly up towards goal, and in defence preventing many drivers from moving further towards goal. Sophie continued to make strong saves protecting the teams goal difference leaving the score at the end of the third quarter 8-5 to Timperley.

The last 15 minutes were the most fierce as Oxton knew the current goal difference would leave them with a loss. Timperley were aware of this and were determined to keep the ball safe and not lose possession. After Oxton won the first possession off the draw, after a couple of minutes, they scored. Timperley wanted to ensure this didn't happen again and so after the next draw Timperley, possession was won and the team continued to make safe passes across the pitch to reduce the chance of losing possession. Oxton worked hard in an attempt to get the ball back, but Timperley remained strong as a unit, leaving very little room for error. This fight continued until the last second of the game, but possession remained with Timperley. After an exceptional game of lacrosse, the final score was 8-6 to Timperley. Both teams performed outstandingly and the referee’s commented on how great the match was to umpire, and that both teams played a brilliant game.
