This morning the U16 played in the annual 6 a side tournament, and reached the semi finals before a controversial loss to the eventual winners Sheffield.

We came through the first three round robin matches with some convincing wins, beating Poynton 8-0, Mersey/Wacs 6-0 and Rochdale 6-0 before our final round robin against Sheffield. This game between two unbeaten teams proved to be a thriller, with the Timperley boys turning a 1-3 deficit into a 4-3 win in the final two minutes of the game, nailing the winner with one second left in the game.

The placings after the round robin were Cheadle 1, Timperley 2, Sheffield 3 and SNG 4, which meant an immediate rematch against Sheffield. The teams were again very evenly matched and half time arrived at 1-1. A couple of minutes into the second half Timperley scored what everybody (players and coaches of both teams) saw as the go ahead goal, only for one of the referees to disallow it for a crease violation. Sheffield rode their luck to then take the lead, and as we chased the game they scored a third to push us to a 1-3 loss and out of the tournament.

A disappointing end to the morning, but the boys did themselves proud and showed their class after the loss. We looked a solid team, every outfield player got on the scoresheet, we had a good game plan that we stuck to, and it so nearly came off.

Today's players were Fraser Dalgliesh, Pat Sugden, Dan Walker, TJ Burgess, Cameron Jamie, Adam Kinghorn, Oli Loveland
