An away match this Sunday proved to be our toughest game of the season so far against a feisty (some may say aggressive) Cheadle Kingsway team.
Cheadle’s U13 side is the same group of girls that also plays in the U15 league. Timperley U15s beat them heavily last week and as a consequence Cheadle came out very fired up to ensure they got revenge at the younger age group.
Nonetheless, Timperley held a 1-0 lead for much of the first half thanks to a string of fine saves from Niamh Gribbon. Unfortunately, we couldn’t hold out and finished the first half 3-2 down. Cheadle celebrated the half-time whistle like they had won the match – always a mistake!
Both teams tired after the break and this meant Timperley’s superior skills shone through and we were in control for much of the second half, although the score stayed close and Cheadle still had enough chances to make for nervous spectating! Timperley regained the lead, only conceding once in the second half thanks to some fantastic defending, and saw the game out to win 6-4.
There were too many player-of-the-match performances to single out any individuals – a great team performance, and the unbeaten run continues.
